Spartan Controls has launched a special web site for covering Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) Issues: www.spartancontrols.com/products/cec The initial focus of the site is on the new standards for secondary seals that have recently come into force in Alberta and BC. In response to customer inquiries, the site has been created as a source for information about compliance issues and how regulations affect the use of our products and services. The site includes reference documents and links to other standards organizations such as CSA, CEC, ISA, and Standata issues. Secondary Seals Regulations The Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, 2006, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations (C22.1-06), and the associated STANDATA Variance of February 14, 2007, now requires special process seals (secondary seals) in some applications to ensure that process fluid cannot pass through the conduit or cable into other areas upon failure of a single component. These requirements are based on the ANSI/ISA-12.27.01-2003 requirements for process sealing between electrical systems and flammable or combustible process fluids. Examples of this type of seal include diaphragm seals, thermowells, and pump seals. Spartan Controls is working with the manufacturers we represent to help customers address these requirements. The CEC Issues site provides compliance and certification details for the major product lines that are affected by these regulations. Declaration and compliance letters from our manufacturers are posted to the site as we receive them. View the Spartan Controls CEC Issues site: www.spartancontrols.com/products/cec
