Spartan Controls recently answered the call for help from the United Way Days of Caring Program.

Spartan employees completed a project that involved renovating and rejuvenating a senior citizens home. This project is part of the United Way Days of Caring Program.  August 7th, 2005, Global presented Margaret's Story on “Open Doors”.

Margaret’s Story
Margaret, a 76-year old widow is a positive, humorous senior who would like to stay in her home.  Although she cannot walk very far, she does walk every day to maintain her flexibility.

Margarets' small, 900 square foot home is 50 years old, filled with the treasures of her lifetime and has a beautiful view. She lives within her means on her modest pension income and does not go into debt on house upgrades. She did, however, manage to replace her roof a few years ago with a loan from a friend. She has recently applied for Special Needs Assistance for some structural upgrades.  Many of the items have a two to three year waiting list and do not cover esthetic items such as painting and landscaping.  She benefits from another community program, MOW/SNOW, which maintains her yard and sidewalk.

Spartan employees have been able to make a visible impact in Margaret’s daily life. The financial demands of maintaining a home on limited income are just a few of the factors that affect the ability of some seniors to care for themselves and remain in their home.  Spartan Controls was able to play an important role in assisting with the home care by painting the inside to help Margaret feel more comfortable.
