Combustible Gas Detection Combustible Gas Detection
Natural gas fired engines that drive compressors for gas gathering are required to have gas detection.

Natural gas fired engines that drive compressors for gas gathering are required to have gas detection.

This is because the ignition systems are general purpose devices used in Class 1 Zone 2 areas. Traditionally, catalytic bead gas detection has been used for the detection of combustible methane and other hydrocarbon gases. This type of detector has drawbacks such as the requirement for oxygen to be present for operation, a need for periodic calibration, and need for periodic sensor replacement.

Infrared gas detectors have the advantage of not being susceptible to poisons, require only annual calibration, and a sensor life that approaches two decades.

With thousands of these detectors in rugged environments, infrared gas detectors are selected because they know they will continue to operate in the most challenging of applications.
