Traditionally it has been very difficult to measure solids level in ore hoppers with 2 wire radar.

Traditionally it has been very difficult to measure solids level in ore hoppers with 2 wire radar.

This is due to the fact that the surface is sloped and irregular, and the dielectric of the product is very low. This yields very noisy and weak signals and requires expensive high-power radars to yield better signal returns. Another key challenge is the rapid level changes from dumping trucks and ore dumped in crushers.

Software improvements to Emerson's Rosemount™ 5400 Level Transmitter yield better signal strengths and improved performance in the measurement of solids.

The footprint for this technology is much smaller than the traditional parabolic antenna, making installation easier and more cost-effective. The added value to the Rosemount™ 5402 is the much lower cost than the high powered 4 wire radar.
